BBQ starters

Where can I buy grill tabs for my Amica or Joya?

Unfortunately, the Barbecook Amica and Joya are no longer part of our range, which means that the grill tabs are also no longer available.
Don't panic! The grill tabs can be perfectly replaced by traditional charcoal and firelighters. Fill the bowl of your charcoal barbecue with a layer of charcoal and some firestarters. You light the firelighters and wait until a white layer of ash appears on the coals. After this you add some extra coals and wait again. After this, the grilling can begin.

Can the grill tabs also be used in the Barbecook Amica?

This is possible.
The stainless steel inner bowl of the Barbecook Amica is less deep than that of the Joya. Because of this, the grill tabs will initially protrude above the edge of the aluminum tray. When the grill tabs start to burn, their volume will drop so that the grid can be placed nicely in its place. So it is definitely possible to use the grill tabs in combination with the Amica.

When I mount the spit brackets on my unit, I can no longer use my side burner.

It is indeed the case that when you mount the Barbecook spit set on your barbecue, the brackets of the spit ensure that you can no longer use the side burner.
This is a kind of built-in safety. Should you use the side burner at the same time as the spit burner, the handle of the spit burner would get way too hot and melt.

I bought a rotisserie set for my gas grill. What is the maximum weight of the piece of meat I want to grill?

Our rotisserie set is sturdy enough to hang and cook one chicken. The poultry may weigh up to a maximum of 3 kg.

Cleaning and maintaining the BBQ

How do I maintain my chromed parts?

Chrome-plated parts are very sensitive to rust. For this reason, we at Barbecook always recommend cleaning them thoroughly after use. In addition to cleaning, it is very important to let the chromed parts dry thoroughly and keep them dry.
Always treat the chromed parts with non-aggressive cleaning products such as the Barbecook grill cleaner. Our grill cleaner is specifically designed to clean chromed and enameled parts easily and quickly. Allow the grill cleaner foam to soak in for a moment and rinse thoroughly with warm water and a soft sponge or cloth.

How do I maintain my cast iron grates?

The cast iron grills of Barbecook always have an enamel finish. This finish ensures easy maintenance. After barbecuing, simply let the barbecue grills cool down and clean them with the Barbecool grill cleaner. Our grill cleaner is specifically designed to clean chromed and enameled parts easily and quickly. Allow the grill cleaner foam to soak in for a moment and rinse thoroughly with warm water and a soft sponge or cloth.

Tips:

  • The more you use your cast-iron grids, the easier the maintenance will be.
  • Do you store the grids for a longer period of time? Then rub them lightly with a neutral oil (groundnut, sunflower or rice oil) after cleaning. Wrap them in paper and store them indoors.
  • Before barbecuing, always apply a thin layer of oil to enamelled grids or contact plates. That way, food will not stick.

The cast iron grills and contact plate of my gas barbecue are showing rust. Is this normal? What is the best way to maintain/clean these parts?

The cast iron grids of the Barbecook barbecues always have a matte enamel finish. This finish makes maintenance easier, but not superfluous. To extend the life of your cast iron grids and contact plates and to prevent rust formation, proper maintenance remains crucial.
Before using your barbecue for the first time, we always recommend washing the grids and contact plates with a mild detergent and hot water. With cast iron parts it is always important to let them dry thoroughly after cleaning/washing.
We also recommend that you regularly grease the grids with a neutral oil, such as ground nut, sunflower or rice oil. In this way, you can prevent rust formation.

For thorough cleaning of the barbecue grids and contact plates we have the Barbecook grill cleaner in our range. After each use, let the grids cool down and rub them with the barbecook grill cleaner. The foam of the grill cleaner loosens the fats, so that after a few minutes you can easily clean them. Again, it is very important to let the grids dry thoroughly before storing them again.

Tips:

  • The more you use your cast iron barbecue grids, the easier the maintenance.
  • Are you storing your barbecue grids for a longer period of time? Then rub them lightly with a neutral oil (ground nut, sunflower, or rice oil) after cleaning. Wrap them in newspaper and store them indoors.
  • Before barbecuing, always apply a thin layer of oil to the enameled grids and contact plates. This will make the food less likely to stick.

My barbecue cover discolered after a few weeks. Is this normal?

Barbecook attaches great importance to quality. Indeed, the old version of our barbecue cover was not fully UV-resistant, which made discoloration by the sun possible. In the meantime, however, we have introduced a new and improved version. Our new Barbecook barbecue cover is fully UV resistant. Furthermore, our new cover is also fully breathable and water repellent.

Taste and flavour makers

The smoke dust won't burn in my cold smoke generator. What should I do?

We have noticed that the grain in our fine smoking dust is not always uniform. This can cause certain mixes to still contain too large pieces of wood. If you use these in your cold smoke generator, your coil may not burn up completely. This is because the smoldering effect stops when there is a too large grain in the coil. Since these larger grains are not found in every bag, it is difficult to block a complete production batch. If you have received a bad sachet, we will gladly send you a new one.
